Borussia Dortmund are reportedly keeping tabs on young Moroccan gun Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal. According to African Soccer, the 19-year-old's growing impact on Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais has come to their attention.

Die Borussen are set for a massive squad overhaul this summer following another trophyless campaign with several first-team stars on their way out. Now with the German side contemplating on the reinforcements, Abdelhamid has come to light and seen as a potential long-term asset too.

A centre-back by trade, Ait Boudlal joined French side Rennes' youth team in 2024 after coming through the ranks at Moroccan side Mohammed VI Football Academy.

After a handful of appearances, he moved to Ligue 2 side Amiens on loan in February 2025 until the end of the season where the player got to make his senior debut.

Upon returning to Rennes in the summer, Ait Boudlal has played 14 times in the French top-flight and even struck twice while assisting once. He also started their Coupe de France clash against Marseille in the round of 16 and lasted 79 minutes.

His slow but steady rise to prominence in the professional circuit has alerted many clubs across Europe, including Dortmund, who are reportedly monitoring his development.

Ait Boudlal has shown the composure and temperament that bely his age and it is something that could help the young gun acclimatize to more challenging surroundings such as those at Signal Iduna Park where he'd be under greater scrutiny too.

Currently under contract with Les Rennais until 2028, the prospect of playing for Dortmund - that also comes with the promise of Champions League football - might be too tempting for him to turn down. The move would mark a major step forward in his nascent career while also potentially springboarding his international career with Morocco too.

African Soccer reports that he remains in a strong position to negotiate should formal discussions take place. And although Dortmund's interests are still in the early stages, the club has a strong track record of recruiting the best young players and nurturing them into world-beaters.

Moreover, any deal between the two parties could reportedly face potential hurdle from Rennais who may refuse to let another defender leave after their centre-back Jeremy Jacquet's confirmed move to Liverpool this summer, unless the offer meets their demand.

It will be interesting to see how the transfer saga plays out in the months ahead.
