Borussia Dortmund have confirmed a knee ligament injury for their midfielder Felix Nmecha, who is now set for a spell on the sidelines.
The 25-year-old is also set to miss Germany's international friendlies to Switzerland and Ghana this month after having received a call-up from Hansi Flick.
It marks Die Mannschaft's second major injury blow for the month as Bayern Munich star Aleksandar Pavlovic had also withdrawn from the national team following an injury of his own.
Nmecha was in action against Hamburg on Saturday, wherein he missed a first-half penalty for Dortmund which could have cut their deficit to one goal after Die Rothosen raced to a 2-0 lead.
But the player was saved the blushes in the second half following the side's incredible comeback, with Ramy Bensebaini putting away two penalties coupled with a goal from Serhou Guirassy.
Now the Black and Yellows have said on Monday that he suffered a damage to his knee ligament during the frantic encounter and will be out for several weeks.
Although the exact extend of his absence isn't known, it's likely going to end his season as Dortmund have only seven league games left into their Bundesliga campaign which officially ends on 16 May.
On the bright side though, it hasn't been confirmed yet that Nmecha will miss the remainder of their season. But his absence from the squad when the side returns from the international break, could prove detrimental.
Nmecha has been a valuable member of Dortmund's midfield this season under Niko Kovac, mustering 40 appearances in all competitions, including 27 in the Bundesliga.
A versatile box-to-box midfielder combining great physical strength with exceptional dribbling skills and passing ability, he would be a big loss for Dortmund in their last few games of the league season.
Kovac now faces a tough challenge to cement the gap in the midfield, especially after the scare in their last game as Dortmund aim to seal second place in the Bundesliga as soon as possible.
They are eight points ahead of third-placed VfB Stuttgart, who have 53 points in the bag from 27 games which is a healthy margin going into the last seven top-flight fixtures of the campaign.
That's not all, Dortmund are also missing Emre Can, who has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with an ACL injury while Filippo Mane is also nursing a muscle injury right now.
Dortmund return to action in the Bundesliga on Saturday, 4 April with an away game to VfB Stuttgart.
