Borussia Dortmund are reportedly close to signing of Roberto Scaglione from FC Genoa. The 16-year-old would arrive on a one million euro transfer after impressing in Genoa's youth academy and will immediately join the youth academy.
According to Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport, the BVB are in advanced negotiations with the Serie A side. Although Scaglione never made a senior debut with the Griffins, he was called up to Patrick Vieira's matchday squad on two occasions during the 2025-26 season, but the midfielder remained an unused substitute.
Just 15 at the time, he became the youngest in Genoa's history to ever receive a call-up for the Italian top-flight and has represented the Azzurri at youth level from U14 onwards and is currently with the U17 side. Scaglione, who signed his first professional contract with Genoa in January this year, was reportedly on the viewfinder of Dortmund last summer too while other European giants such as Bayern Munich, PSG, Inter Milan and Juventus were also linked with him.
However, the Black and Yellow are said to beat them all and bring the highly rated young Italian gun to Dortmund instead. Should a transfer materialize, Scaglione will be joining three other players from Italy.
Filippo Mane, Luca Reggiani and Samuele Inacio make up the BVB's Italian contingent right now and all three players made their club debuts last season.
Mane, the eldest of them all at 21, impressed with Dortmund's youth sides in the lower tier of German football before Kovac finally handed his senior debut on 18 August 2025 in a DFB-Pokal clash against Rot-Weiss Essen.
His league debut, though, was one to forget with Mane conceding a penalty and later getting sent off in a 3-3 draw to St. Pauli on the opening game of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season.
Reggiani broke into the first team only in February and still ended up with eight top-flight appearances, twice as many as Mane as his promising displays also earned the former a long-term professional contract.
Completing this young and dynamic Italian contingent is Inacio, who was handed a baptism of fire with a debut against Bayern Munich in the Der Klassiker. And while he couldn't pull any trees that night, he slowly proved his value into the side and even bagged a Bundesliga goal a few weeks later against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Roberto Scaglio could soon follow into their footsteps this season.
