Borussia Dortmund players Daniel Svensson and Salih Ozcan will be playing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Sweden and Turkey confirmed their place at the showpiece.
Both nations had reached the playoff finals after narrow wins and this week, prevailed victorious once again to finally book their spot in the group stages of the tournament.
As for Ozcan, the young defender was part of Turkey's squad for this month's crucial World Cup qualifying playoffs. While he remained an unused substitute in their 1-0 win over Romania last week, he came off the bench to see off Kosovo in the decider.
Kerem Akturkoglu struck the only goal of the game as the Crescent-Stars ended 24 years of pain to finally return to the biggest stage of football.
Ozcan was subbed in after 84 minutes, when the match was fast approaching it's end as Turkey led 1-0, but made sure everything remained kosher in defense in the dying embers to prevent Kosovo from fighting their way back.
The 28-year-old is sure to be a part of their World Cup squad in June given his talents, although Dortmund won't see him next season as the Turk is confirmed to leave Signal Iduna Park upon the expiration of his contract.
Ozcan, though, wasn't the only Dortmund player to come through the international break in a celebratory mood as Svensson also reached the World Cup after Sweden overcame Poland 3-2 in a crunch playoff final.
The Blagult went ahead twice in the match with the Poles firing back each time, until Viktor Gyokeres scored the winning goal for Sweden in the 88th minute to send them through.
Svensson began the match on the right side of a five-man defense and lasted the entire night, turning in a fabulous display at both ends of the pitch.
He drove forward at will to join up attack and add a new dimension to Sweden's offensive vanguard, but without ever relinquishing his defensive duties as Svensson remained vigilant in defense too.
With Sweden qualifying for the first time since 2018, the Nordic side join the Netherlands, Tunisia and Japan in Group F of the upcoming World Cup, whereas Turkey are in Group A with co-hosts Mexico, South Korea and South Africa.
In more international news, Marcel Sabitzer was on target for Austria again in their 1-0 win over South Korea whereas Ramy Bensebaini turned in a stellar display for Algeria in their 0-0 friendly draw with Uruguay.
