Waldemar Anton had a great season with Borussia Dortmund. He clocked the second-highest minutes in the side and was a rock in defense who gave even the most menacing forwards a serious run for their money.
The German international also made the second highest number of tackles in the Bundesliga last season with 73, a figure bettered by only Eintracht Frankfurt's Nathaniel Brown (83) while also displaying excellent composure under pressure.
Anton on radar of Premier League duo
His performances certainly haven't gone unnoticed in Europe. Reports suggest Anton is now watched by Premier League sides, Manchester United and Aston Villa.
According to transfer expert Ekrem Konur, the 29-year-old is closely monitored by these English sides. And it's easy to see why.
With a third-place finish in the 2025-26 Premier League season, the Red Devils are looking to build on that in the next term with Champions League football also set to return to Old Trafford after two years.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are fresh off a historic Europa League triumph, which qualified them for the Champions League while also making a respectable fourth-place finish in the league.
Both teams are now looking to reinforce their squads to remain competitive in the coming years and could be set for some big moves in the upcoming transfer market.
Defense is one key area which the sides are focused on, and hence identified Anton as a possible recruit who could beef up their backline.
Dortmund not keen to sell Anton
However, where do Borussia Dortmund stand in this? According to Konur, the BVB have no plans of selling him but offers in the range of €35‑40 million could be considered.
As we've reported before, the club is looking forward to a potentially massive squad overhaul for which they need funds and if Anton's sale fills up their coffer a bit, then the club may not dissuade the idea.
At 29, he's currently in his prime and still has a few more years left at the top. But since joining the BVB from Stuttgart in 2024, he's been a central figure in their defensive set-up.
His departure would leave Dortmund with the task of filling up another key position in their lineup, with Julian Brandt's exit also leaving them in the hunt for a new midfield talisman.
But given the side's incredible scouting, there's little doubt over Dortmund's ability to find a like-for-like replacement.
