Borussia Dortmund starlet Julien Duranville is set to leave the Signal Iduna Park this summer. According to German news outlet Sport BILD, the player doesn't appear in the club's plans going forward.
The 20-year-old has a contract with BVB that runs until 2028 but latest developments indicate his future looks bleak in Dortmund right now.
Signed in January 2023, Duranville was earmarked for big things at the club after displaying flashes of brilliance back in Belgium during his early days as a professional.
His Belgian compatriot Vincent Kompany even hailed him as a potential Ballon d'Or winner in the future, a high praise by all accounts.
But recurring injuries meant Duranville was never able to nail down a starting berth and in fact, missed a huge chunk of games in two-and-a-half years at the club.
His first half of 2025-26 season was missed with a joint dislocation that saw him miss the first three months of action before returning to matchday squad in November against Bayer Leverkusen.
Head coach Niko Kovac though, never played him on. Duranville was next summoned to matchday squad directly in January against St. Pauli. But once again, didn't play even for a minute.
A loan move to Basel was sealed to give him some playing time and perhaps, recapture his form too but the Belgium international returns with hardly any change.
Moreover, the BILD has also reported that Dortmund are not happy with the player's attitude and body language has disappointed the club's management several times in the past.
What's more damning was, Kovac indirectly admitting Duranville was behind the pecking order when the Croatian said:
""We are at BVB, and there are some really good players at BVB. He is one of them, but the others are better.""said Kovac back in December 2025
BILD further reports that there are interests from clubs from France without mentioning any side explicitly. But either way, Dortmund are unlikely to recoup the €8.5 million they paid for Duranville over three years ago.
Die Borussen are already packed to the rafters with envious attacking talents such as Serhou Guirassy, Maximilian Beier, Samuele Inacio, Karim Adeyemi and Fabio Silva.
Even if some of them were to depart as rumors suggest, Duranville hasn't proved himself at the loan spell to warrant a consistent place in their starting XI.
Kovac has already deemed the player surplus to his requirements, so an exit seems inevitable.
