Borussia Dortmund play their second pre-season game of the summer against Fortuna Dusseldorf on Saturday, 25 July. The side aims to build on the comprehensive 3-1 comeback win secured over RW Oberhausen last week that gave them a head-start into their campaign.
Runners-up in the Bundesliga last season, the Black and Yellow have a long summer ahead before kicking-off their 2026-27 season next month as Niko Kovac's side aim to build momentum with strong displays in these friendly games.

Dusseldorf close pre-season run with daunting fixture
The Flingeraner were having an excellent pre-season campaign with four wins in a row although each of them came against relatively obscure sides plying their trade in the lower divisions of German football.
But in their last match, Dusseldorf were beaten 2-0 by Austrian side Linzer ASK. Borussia Dortmund however will be their toughest opposition yet and it comes in their final warmup match of the summer before starting their league season on 7 August.
Another open contest but Dortmund to prevail
Die Borussen fell behind early in their clash with RW Oberhausen, conceding after only five minutes into the kick-off before fighting back to strike three goals and win comprehensively. Expect something similar here too.
As friendlies are often marked by sweeping changes, it's not uncommon to see a side lose momentum or grow into a match late on. As Kovac is likely to shake up his squad here too in order to give chances to first-team stars and reserve players alike, Dortmund are likely to concede again.
However, given the quality within their ranks, one expects them to eventually come through the clash triumphant.

While the rivals have contested 76 official clashes, there have been only five meetings between them during the pre-season with three wins for Borussia Dortmund and one for Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Their most recent friendly encounter came in January 2023 when the BVB crushed the Fortunen 5-1 in Marbella, Spain.
Felix Passlack put the BVB in front after five minutes after Dawid Kownacki equalized for Dusseldorf from the penalty spot just two minutes later.
Karim Adeyemi restored Dortmund's advantage in the 32nd minute while Nico Schlotterbeck and Donyell Malen combined to score three goals in the last 10 minutes to seal the tie for the Bundesliga giants.
