Borussia Dortmund forward Fabio Silva has been enjoying a positive start to the 2026-27 season, which is now reaping rewards internationally too.
Portugal's new manager Jorge Jesus has called up the 24-year-old for their upcoming UEFA Nations League games this month.
Silva is off to a flyer this season
Barring the Supercup loss to Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund have won all six games so far this season and one of their driving forces behind the blistering run of form has been Fabio Silva.
With four goals, the forward has already surpassed his tally from last season (3) while also teeing up once as Silva finally appears to have recaptured his mojo.
He's also forged a formidable attacking partnership with Serhou Guirassy, as the BVB forwards have linked up directly to create a few goals already.
From being speculated as a possible loan transfer during the summer to becoming a central figure within a few weeks of the new season, the former Wolves man has turned things around impressively.
Silva recalled to Portugal squad
Fabio Silva's solid attacking form hasn't gone unnoticed on the international stage, as Portugal's new manager Jorge Jesus has rewarded him for his eye-catching displays with a place in his 26-man squad for this international window.
The 24-year-old was left out of Seleccao's World Cup squad by Roberto Martinez earlier this year, which albeit wasn't a surprise considering his struggles at Dortmund. In fact, Silva's career with the national team had been frozen out since 2024.
He made his international debut on 18 November that year in a 1-1 draw away to Croatia after Pedro Neto had returned to Chelsea, opening up a vacancy in Portugal's offensive vanguard. Martinez, who called him up after seeing his three-goal salvo with LaLiga side Las Palmas on loan, had even praised the player for offering a different attacking style to Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota or Goncalo Ramos.
Silva's chance to step up internationally
Now that Fabio Silva is back with Portugal, this is his chance to step up to the plate internationally by carrying his club form into their Nations League fixtures and perhaps make a telling impact.
Cristiano Ronaldo remains the cynosure of the squad once more, although Joao Felix, Rafael Leao, Pedro Neto, Goncalo Ramos, Francisco Conceição and Francisco Trincão are in the mix too.
