Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Marco Rose has been appointed as the new permanent manager by Premier League side, Bournemouth.

The Cherries have announced that their current manager Andoni Iraola would leave the Dorset outfit this summer when his contract expires, after three years in-charge.

While they haven't announced it officiallly, but Bournemouth have reached a verbal agreement with Rose to succeed the outgoing Iraola.

According to reports by Sky Sports, the club is currently working through the final steps of the move, such as arranging visas and appointing backroom staff.

Rose, who's been out of work since leaving RB Leipzig in March 2025, had emerged as the top candidate to take over the role given his tactical approach suits their club's playing style.

The 49-year-old has a penchant for high-intensity, pressing football, employed during his time at Leipzig as well as Borussia Dortmund.

He also has a good track record of developing young talents, which also augurs well for a club like Bournemouth that is packed with youthful talents.

Sky further reported that Bournemouth viewed his experience in Europe as well as that of managing in top leagues as valuable to their system as the club aims for bigger things next season.

Despite a massive outlay last summer, the Cherries are languishing in 11th place of the league standings with only 10 wins from 32 games but are currently 12 games unbeaten in the Premier League.

Rose's record at Dortmund

Marco Rose was appointed as the permanent manager for the 2021-22 season and endured a mixed campaign overall. In fact, his tenure got off to a rocky start as Dortmund were beaten 3-1 by Bayern Munich in the DFL-Supercup in his first game on the sidelines.

In the Bundesliga, he helped Dortmund finish in second place with 69 points, eight behind champions Bayern as their leaky defense (they conceded 52 goals that season) proved costly.

On the league cup front, the BVB were knocked out in the round of 16 by St. Pauli, while bowing out in the group stages of the Champions League before losing out to Rangers in the knockout playoffs of the Europa League.

Under Rose, Dortmund became a menacing outfit on the attacking front with goals spread out across multiple players from different positions, but were equally volatile at the back and had a poor record against the big sides of the league too.

Dortmund and Rose mututally agreed to part ways in the summer of 2022 after just one season.
