Borussia Dortmund face Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Sunday. For the BVB, it's their penultimate game away from home as Niko Kovac's side aim to build on their crushing 4-0 win over Freiburg in their last fixture.

With the Champions League objective finally secured, their next goal is to nail down the runners-up spot on the league table as Dortmund are currently in second place with 67 points from 31 games, five ahead of RB Leipzig.

Meanwhile, Gladbach are down in 14th place with a meager 32 points from 31 games and coming into the fixture on the back of a five-game winless run as the Foals have endured another disappointing top-flight campaign.

The clubs have enjoyed a great rivalry over the years, but that hasn't stopped players from swapping teams as a few have had the privilege of representing both their fabled colors.

Here are the top names:

5) Julian Weigl

A prominent midfield figure in the post Jurgen Klopp-era, Julian Weigl became one of the most sought-after players for his defensive nous and game-reading ability under Thomas Tuchel. Post him, his appearances progressively declined and following a short spell with Benfica, Weigl returned to Bundesliga with Monchengladbach.

Originally signed on loan, the former German international's move was made permanent in 2023 and remained one of the first names on their team-sheet for another two years.

4) Jonas Hofmann

Hofmann was on Dortmund's books for four years, but played properly with the senior team in just one: the 2013-14 season when he amassed 39 appearances with the side. Injuries and struggles for regular gametime finally saw him leave for Gladbach in 2016.

At the Borussia Park, the winger was a constant figure in their offensive vanguard for eight years during which he amassed 214 appearances, including 184 in the Bundesliga. He won the league title with Bayer Leverkusen's historic team of 2023-24 under Xabi Alonso.

3) Thorgan Hazard

Monchengladbach were quick to spot him during Hazard's early playing days in the Belgian Pro League and initially signed him on loan for the 2014-15 season before making the move permanent the following summer.

He soon became a vital figure in the squad, pulling the strings in their attack while also scoring a few goals. Dortmund splashed €25.5 million on him in 2019 but Hazard failed to replicate his Gladbach exploits with the BVB.

2) Matthias Ginter

Another player here to have appeared over 100 times for both clubs, Ginter spent three years at Dortmund from 2014 to 2017 during which he witnessed the lows of Jurgen Klopp's final season as well as the highs of Thomas Tuchel's revitalized side.

He wasn't an instant hit, with the German slowly working his way into the side and growing in influence. But just then, the Foals roped him in and he enjoyed consistent gametime over the next five years. But unlike his Dortmund spell during which he won two trophies, Ginter failed to lift any with Gladbach.

1) Marco Reus

No surprises here. Marco Reus might be a Borussia Dortmund legend, but his talents were first noticed at Borussia Monchengladbach after he joined them in 2009.

Over the next three years, he established himself among the best young attacking players so much so that Dortmund came calling and the rest is history.
