Borussia Dortmund have had a fairly successful Bundesliga campaign. They achieved runners-up finish for the first time since 2023 and are on course for their highest points tally in seven years.

What's more, the BVB also boast the best defensive record of any side in the division as they conceded just 34 goals, one fewer than even champions Bayern Munich.

On paper, it has all the makings of a memorable season but it still wasn't enough to clinch the league title as the Bavarians won it at a canter.

While he acknowledged that Dortmund can be proud of their season, Serhou Guirassy feels there's still area for improvement within the squad, which is facing big chances this summer.

""There is a very good team here, that’s for sure. There are very good players. Some players are going to leave, we already know that. But we still have work to do, because this season was also complicated.""
he said in an interview with Bundesliga

Until February, the BVB were only six points behind arch-rivals Bayern and seemingly in a two-horse race, but then a spectacular implosion ended it all for them.

Having lost just once in 23 games, Die Borussen were beaten four times from their next 10 as their form slump allowed Bayern to walk away with the league crown for a 34th time.

But there's one more key area which Guirassy feels must be addressed: the attack. While Bayern have smashed the Bundesliga goalscoring record by netting 177 times, Dortmund have accrued just 68, although it's the best figure in the league after the Bavarians.

Although the BVB have failed to score in just two games all season, a pair of 1-0 losses to Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Monchengladbach, they struck just once in seven games. There have been only two instances where they scored at least four times in a match: 4-0 vs Mainz and Freiburg.

Compared to last season, that's still five occasions fewer. In fact, there was hardly any change in Dortmund's numbers from last season, as they amassed 71 goals in the 2024-25 Bundesliga season and need just three more on the final day to match that figure this term.

Guirassy, who's bagged 21 league goals this season, highlighted the huge gulf in attacking quality between them and champions Bayern.

""Even though we finished second, it was a difficult season, especially in terms of goals scored. If you compare us to Bayern, they have scored 49 more goals than us, so there’s still a lot to improve in our attacking play. We definitely have to work on that.""
added the Guinean ace.

Dortmund play their final game of the season tonight against Werder Bremen.
