"Guirassy is a top 5 striker" - BVB fans exalt striker after goal in Bundesliga season opener

Serhou Guirassy really had fans concerned about his form coming into Saturday's clash. He'd struck only twice in six preseason games and turned in a stinker against Bayern Munich in the Supercup.

His growing age and third season syndrome were just among the few theories floated. But head coach Niko Kovac retained his faith in him to start the striker once more last evening.

Lo and behold, Guirassy repays it almost instantly. Just nine minutes into the clash, the 30-year-old made a powerful finish into the bottom corner for 1-0.

Following a neat back-and-forth with Konstantinos Karetsas, the Guinean drives into the box and evades his marker with a lovely touch before finding the net.

That was his 39th goal in the Bundesliga from 64 appearances since joining Dortmund in 2024.

Although fans would have loved to see him bag a goal or two more, it's still encouraging to see Dortmund's top-scorer of last season opening his account right off the bat.

And for the record, this is the second year running where Guirassy has scored in the opening Bundesliga game of a season, having also been on target against St. Pauli on matchday one last year.

Fans couldn't contain their excitement at watching him back among the goals and took to X to make their feelings known:

There was a lot of talk this summer about Dortmund's number 9, and his previous season wasn't quite as good as his debut campaign.
