Popular sporting tabloid, Sport Bild, has reported that Olympique Marseille have opened contact with Borussia Dortmund left-back, Ramy Bensebaini, over a potential move this summer. Marseille are poised to be in the UEFA Champions League next season and are looking for experienced players to bolster their squad. Consistent left-backs can be difficult to secure, but Bensebaini has Champions League experience in addition to a decade of Algerian National Team caps.
According to the tabloid, Borussia Dortmund would require at least 20 million euros to let Bensebaini leave, as Borussia Dortmund value him more than his transfer value of 7 million, according to Transfermarkt. The extra money could help BVB's efforts to recruit fresh faces this summer.
At 30 years old, and marred by occasional injuries, Borussia Dortmund could benefit from offloading Bensebaini for a decent fee, as left-footed players like Daniel Svensson have integrated into the club. However, Ramy Bensebaini has also become the first-choice left back in Niko Kovač’s back-three, and it’s unclear whether or not the Croat would give the green light for a transfer.
It has also not been expressed that Bensebaini is searching for a move away from the club at this time. It has also not been expressed that Bensebaini is searching for a move away from the club at this time.
Bensebaini arrived in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer from Borussia Mönchengladbach. While he struggled to make a serious impression in his first season, the Algerian became a regular starter under both Nuri Sahin and Niko Kovač.
The Algerian’s contract runs until 2027, at which point the defender will be 32. Bensebaini has played 46 matches in Black and Yellow, scoring just a single goal.
