Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha has talked of a promise that Fabio Silva had made to him ahead of their clash with Paderborn on Saturday.
The German international revealed that if Silva scores in the match, he'd come to him to celebrate, and the latter exactly that after opening the scoring on Saturday.
Serhou Guirassy sent a vertical ball forward for Silva to chase and the Portuguese broke on the counter before making a sublime finish beyond Paderborn goalkeeper Nahuel Noll.
He was then seen running towards the bench to celebrate with Nmecha, whom he calls his 'best friend' in the squad and someone who helped him navigate some testing times at the club.
Nmecha hailed him for not only keeping his promise, but also his performances since joining the club last year. He said:
"He told me that before the game. He said, ‘If I score, I’ll come over to you.’ He’s an honest guy, and he kept his word. When it comes to Fabio, I’m not the kind of person who judges him solely by his goals. Even last season, he had a lot of good moments in my opinion."
A lot of the BVB supporters were unconvinced with Silva's acquisition after the 24-year-old managed just three goals and six assists in all competitions last term.
But following a strong preseason campaign in the summer, he's been able to recapture his mojo and struck four times already in five games this term, whilst also teeing one up.
Nmecha, who also later got on target in the game after coming off the bench to net a late brace, hailed the confidence that Silva is exuberating in front of goal right now.
"Of course, people will always talk, but I think he did what he could. When the confidence comes, you get your chances, and things start to click, it’s a joy to watch. Because we see just how much quality and talent he has."
While Silva's rich vein of form holds him in good stead in terms of finding consistent gametime in the starting lineup, Nmecha felt it's also driving the whole team forward.
"Because we see just how much quality and talent he has. When he scores now, shows off beautiful plays, and plays so well, I’m really happy for the team. That’s just great for the team, and I’m looking forward to seeing even more of that."
