The BVB succumbed to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Bayer Leverkusen at home last weekend, ending their four-game winning run.
A mistake by Ramy Bensebaini allowed Robert Andrich to net the only goal of the game at Signal Iduna Park as Dortmund lost a home league game for just the second time this season and suffered only their third top-flight loss.
It also left Bayern on the brink of yet another Budesliga title, needing four points more to officially seal it. However, should Dortmund drop points again this weekend, the Bavarians will be crowned champions with just a draw to Stuttgart.
Dortmund are still fighting to achieve their Champions League objective and that could be a driving factor for them to regain their best and end the season strongly.
Here's how Dortmund have fared in their last five meetings with Hoffenheim:
Dortmund 1-0 Hoffenheim (DFB Pokal, November 2023)
In a rare cup game between the sides, Dortmund beat Hoffenheim in the second round as former skipper Marco Reus produced the winner in the first half.
Having knocked out Die Kraichgauer from the cup twice before - 2008 and 2015, both quarter-finals - Dortmund kept their 100% win record against them intact.
Dortmund 2-3 Hoffenheim (Bundesliga, February 2024)
One of the best games between the sides in recent history and Hoffenheim's first win over Dortmund in almost four years, it was a game full of twists and turns.
With the German Cup heartbreak still fresh, Hoffenheim came to Signal Iduna Park revitalized and went in front early on. Dortmund fought back to go 2-1 up, but the visitors struck twice more just after the hour mark through Maximilian Beier.
Dortmund 1-1 Hoffenheim (Bundesliga, December 2024)
A third consecutive meeting in Dortmund between the rivals, this one was rather cagey and it ended goalless at the break.
The Black and Yellows came flying out of the blocks after the interval and Giovanni Reyna fired them in front within seconds. It was proving to be enough to secure all three points until Jacob Bruun Larsen made it 1-1 in the 90th minute.
Hoffenheim 2-3 Dortmund (Bundesliga, April 2025)
Dortmund reasserted their dominance in the rivalry here following another pulsating goalfest. They went ahead twice in the match, relinquished the lead each time, and then won in the added minutes!
Serhou Guirassy and Julian Brandt's goals were canceled out by Adam Hlozek and Pavel Kaderabek respectively, with that second one coming in 90th minute. Waldemar Anton then took the mantle upon himself and struck the winner in the dying embers.
Dortmund 2-0 Hoffenheim (Bundesliga, December 2025)
A second win in a row for Dortmund but a first at home in over a year. It was turning out to be a similar story for the BVB, who were struggling to find a breakthrough in the first half until Brandt broke the deadlock with only two minutes for half-time.
Nico Schlotterbeck doubled their advantage at the hour mark to consolidate their grip on the game.
