Borussia Dortmund player Mathis Albert has opened up on his idol, Kylian Mbappe. The 17-year-old revealed that he's been wanting to play like him ever since the Frenchman broke onto the scene with AS Monaco.
Albert, born in South Carolina, joined Dortmund in 2024 where he continued his development before breaking into the senior team in April this year, becoming the youngest player to ever play in the Bundesliga at just 16 years and 340 days.
Recently, he also bagged his first goal for the club as Albert struck in their 2-1 loss to Fortuna Dusseldorf in a preseason encounter a few weeks ago. As the teen now gears for first full-fledged season with the BVB, he revealed that he's idolized Mbappe from a young age.

Kylian Mbappe announced himself to the world with his electric displays for AS Monaco during the 2016-17 season that earned him a staggering €180million transfer to PSG that summer and elevated his stature further into a fearsome goal-scorer over the next seven years.
In 2024, the Frenchman took another giant step forward in his career by joining Real Madrid, all the while becoming the face of France national team. He guided them to a third World Cup trophy in 2018 followed by a UEFA Nations League trophy in 2021.
Albert revealed that he had the chance to meet his idol in last year's Club World Cup tournament in the United States where Mbappe apparently met him kindly.

Borussia Dortmund came up against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the competition, losing 3-2. First-half goals from Gonzalo Garcia and Fran Garcia had the Spanish giants 2-0 in front at the break while Maximilian Beier pulled one back in the third minute of extra-time.
Mbappe restored Madrid's two-goal advantage just seconds later although Serhou Guirassy converted a penalty in the 98th minute to reduce the deficit once more. However, it was a case of too little too late as Dortmund were knocked out.
Albert, who is yet to score in an official game for the Black and Yellow, will be hoping to finally open his account in the 2026-27 season after having enjoyed a productive preseason campaign with the side so far.
