Borussia Dortmund survived an almighty scare against Hamburg at the Signal Iduna Park on Saturday to pick up a 3-2 Bundesliga victory.

Ramy Bensebaini struck two penalties late on while Serhou Guirassy also got on target to turn the tie around in the final 20 minutes.

It was heading towards a shock loss for them until then, as Die Rothosen had sprung a real surprise with two goals in the opening stanza without conceding.

Felix Nmecha had a chance to pull one back for Dortmund from the penalty spot in the dying embers of the first half but missed it as the hosts trailed by two goals.

Midway through the second half, the BVB won another penalty which Bensebaini dispatched before Guirassy pulled them level with a scrappy goal just minutes later to make it 2-2.

Hamburg's night went from bad to worse when the hosts won a third penalty and Bensebaini was on target again as Dortmund completed the turnaround and saw out the remainder of the match to seal all three points.

Here are some interesting facts from the match:

Hat-trick of penalties

With Dortmund winning three penalties, it was just the 10th time in the Bundesliga history that a team were awarded as many spot-kicks in the same game but a first for Die Borussen. Moreover, the last time a Bundesliga game saw three penalties in the same match was in March 2022, when Mainz won a triumvirate of penalties in the second half of their 4-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld.

A rare comeback

It's rare for Dortmund to trial 2-0 at the break, and even more rare to eventually come back from it and win the game. In fact, the last time it happened was back in January 2022 when the BVB trailed by two goals against Eintracht Frankfurt before mountaing a second half comeback to prevail 3-2, just like last night.

Penalty king Bensebaini

Ramy Bensebaini is just a defender but possesses dead-ball skills that could put skilled forwards to shame. The Algerian has taken nine penalties in his club career, and has dispatched every single of them, including the two last night with the second one particularly winning the game for them.

Too many misses too

Conversely, Borussia Dortmund as a club don't rank high when it comes to penalties. Felix Nmecha's missed attempt in the first half was their 79th miss in the club's history - the most in the Bundesliga alongside Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach.
