International Watch: 13 Dortmund players called-up by national teams

Club football takes a back seat for the next two weeks as international games are back. However, the players won't be missed as many of them will be in action for their respective national teams.

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup less than three months away, many qualified nations begin their preparations for the same with a series of friendlies, starting from this month.

Borussia Dortmund will have 13 of their players away on international duty this month. Here's a breakdown:

Despite an array of German stars, only three - Waldemar Anton, Felix Nmecha and Nico Schlotterbeck - have been called up by Die Mannschaft this month as they play Switzerland and Ghana.

Outgoing Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt and diminutive dynamite Karim Adeyemi were among the marquee exclusions by head coach Hansi Flick.

Assist-king Julian Ryerson was no surprise in Norway's squad. The playmaker has seriously enjoyed a phenomenal campaign with Dortmund, making 15 assists in all competitions as a defender.

He is set to play a key role for his nation at the World Cup as the Nordic side prepare for their first appearance in the competition since 1998. They play the Netherlands and Switzerland this month.

All eyes will be on Carney Chukwuemeka as he's all set to make his international debut with Austria. The midfielder switched allegiance from England in a sensational move earlier this month.

A talented young player, he represented England in various youth side but hadn't got a senior call-up from Thomas Tuchel yet, prompting him to pick Austria, the country of his birth.

Marcel Sabitzer is another player who will be in action as the Austrian veteran nears 100 appearances for Das Team, who are set to compete at the World Cup after a gap of 28 years.

Guinean star Serhou Guirassy has also received a call-up from the National Elephants, who although failed to qualify for the World Cup as the Dortmund striker will be among the big names to miss their flight for the US, Canada and Mexico showpiece.

Gregor Kobel is the lone Switzerland representatitive and could take to the field against Germany and Norway this month, while Daniel Svensson will be involved in Sweden's crucial qualifier playoffs against Ukraine.

Dortmund's hero at the weekend with two penalties, Ramy Bensebaini will be hoping to continue his form with Algeria's national team this week as they face Guatemala and Uruguay in a pair of friendlies while Salih Ozcan has been called up by Turkey.

Rising stars Jobe Bellingham and Luca Reggiani have been called up by under-19 sides of England and Italy respectively.
