It was a debut Giannis Konstantelias had been dreaming of right since he was unveiled as the new Borussia Dortmund player earlier this month.

A few touches later, he shoots it right under Sebastiaan Bornauw and it deflects off the Hamburg defender before rolling into the bottom corner beyond Daniel Fernandes' dispairing dive.

He finished the opening stanza with 36 touches (five inside the opposition box), completed 19 of 24 passes, laid two key passes and made four carries too.

Destiny, though, had other plans. Just nine minutes into the second half, Konstantelias fell awkwardly after clashing with Hamburg's Bakery Jatta.
The medical staff attended him before he was seen limping off the field, sparking injury concerns that have now been confirmed by BVB's management.
According to German media house Bulinews, Dortmund are portending an ACL injury, a serious concern that could force the player out for several weeks (or months),
Head coach Niko Kovac revealed that club doctors didn't give any hopeful signal after early diagnosis:
"What really saddens me is the fact Giannis (Konstantelias) got injured and that we're looking at a more serious issue. Our team doctor didn't seem too optimistic."
Sporting director Nils-Ole Book echoed the sentiment:
"We’re definitely concerned that we might be looking at a serious injury [to Konstantelias]. Testing is underway."
Dortmund now face an anxious wait to determine the extent of the injury. It's certainly a massive blow for the club, who'd have to make do without their star signing for a while; and the player, whose dream debut turned into a forgetful nightmare.
