Borussia Dortmund ace Daniel Svensson was dejected by his side's late collapse against Werder Bremen as the rivals drew 2-2.
The BVB led 2-0 until the 88th minute with Svensson himself breaking the deadlock after 80 minutes before Nico Schlotterbeck doubling their advantage five minutes later from a corner.
However, Bremen produced a remarkable comeback into the contest by netting twice over the next four minutes to wipe out Dortmund's lead and force a share of the spoils.
Svensson lamented his side's inability to hold on to their lead in the closing stages of the match. Speaking to the press, he said:
"I’m obviously very disappointed. We dominated for most of the game. We needed to close out the game after scoring those two goals and keep the three points here. So in the end, it was very disappointing for us."
A pass from the back from Schlotterbeck was intercepted with Ludovit Reis then coming into possession and racing past Felix Nmecha and Joey Veerman before firing it into the back of the net.
In the second added minute, the River Islanders had another chance from a free-kick and Niclas Fullkrug raced to connect with it, completely unmarked inside the box, to head it beyond Gregor Kobel for 2-2.
Dortmund had a handful of chances in the match, with Serhou Guirassy, Ethan Nwaneri and Marcel Sabizter all getting close a few times, but some near misses and talismanic saves from Bremen custodian Karl Hein prevented them from going in front.
Nwaneri had the ball in the back of the net in the 62nd minute with a spectacular overhead kick after Bremen failed to clear a BVB free-kick, but it wasn't allowed to stand after Waldemar Anton fouled Fullkrug in the buildup. Guirassy saw a chance cleared off the line too.
Svensson reflected on the tactical switch he made with Maximilian Beier, saying it reaped rewards offensively in terms of producing goallscoring opportunities for his side.
"Switching sides with Maxi Beier might have made it a little easier to get into one-on-one situations. We created more chances that way and became more dangerous, so it was a good move."
The draw mean that Dortmund's perfect start to the Bundesliga campaign ended. And although Bayern Munich dropped points the following day too, the BVB lost the first place in the league table to Freiburg, who now occupy the pole position by virtue of better goal-difference.
