Manchester United are reportedly weighing up options to bolster their attacking vanguard during the January transfer window and have identified Borussia Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy as a possible recruit.
The 30-year-old has started the season brightly with the BVB, netting four goals and making two assists in all competition. Since joining from VfB Stuttgart in 2024, he's been among the best forwards in the Bundesliga and has bagged 64 goals from 101 appearances for the club.
His stats are appealing to a lot of clubs, which is why Guirassy was a subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer. But since no concrete offer arrived, the Guinean ended up staying put, although his ambitions will be tested again in a few months.
According to TEAMtalk journalist Graeme Bailey, United's scouts are closely monitoring Guirassy right now with the intention of pricing him away to Old Trafford in January during the winter transfer window.
The Premier League giants have previously been linked with him, back in 2023 when United were once again in the lookout for new attacking recruits before eventually settling for Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund.
A return of just eight goals in five league matches this season however, is compelling the side to reassess their attacking options as Michael Carricks's side are down in 12th place of the league standings and need serious forwards who can fire them up with blistering, goalscoring exploits.
However, TEAMTalk also reported that it all depends on where Manchester United stand halfway through the season. They are still looking at all the possible attacking options, but a serious move is only anticipated in the event of United continuing to struggle, four months from now.
Even if the Red Devils come for Guirassy, a move wouldn't be easy, as Dortmund wouldn't want to lose their prolific marksman midway through a season. The club believes they have a squad which can compete fiercely on all fronts and the Guinean striker remains an integral part of that.
He has less than two years left on his contract and hence, transfer speculations could only grow from here, especially if a new deal isn't signed anytime soon. Since he's in his 30s now, Guirassy would also come at a cut price, with his estimated market value right now somewhere between €32 million to €33 million.
If a transfer does come to pass, Guirassy would face competition from Benjamin Sesko as United don't reportedly plan on offloading him right now despite the striker scoring just twice in six games this season.
