Marco Reus crowned his debut season in the United States by helping LA Galaxy win the MLS Cup with a win over NY Red Bulls in the final.

Goals from Joseph Paintsil and former Eintracht Frankfurt player Dejan Joveljić gave LA Galaxy a 2-1 win in the MLS Cup final at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles on Saturday evening. Marco Reus, who was an injury doubt before the game, came off the bench in the second-half and helped his team see out the triumph.

The most successful team in MLS Cup history came out on top in the final at the end of the playoffs for a record sixth time.

Reus, who left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, enjoyed a successful debut season in the MLS as he scored one goal and assisted a further three. The Borussia Dortmund legend triumphed against a New York Red Bulls side captained by former RB Leipzig star Emil Forsberg in the final.

Reus said after the game, “If it was a normal game, I wouldn’t play. No chance. But this was so important. I had to be there. In the end, I don’t care (about my health), we won the trophy."
