Marco Reus has revealed that he rejected offers from other Bundesliga clubs and teams in Saudi Arabia after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season.
Borussia Dortmund and Marco Reus parted ways this summer, with the former club captain leaving after 12 memorable years at the club. The 35 year old moved to the United States after his BVB exit, joining MLS side LA Galaxy. He has now commented on the other offers he received after his departure from Borussia Dortmund was announced.
"Playing against BVB for another Bundesliga club doesn't feel right" - Marco Reus
In an interview with SportBILD, Reus said that he received a number of offers from Bundesliga clubs as well as teams from the Saudi Pro League.
When asked why he didn't move to another Bundesliga club, the attacking midfielder said, "There are two reasons. Firstly, my connection to BVB. Suddenly playing for another club in the Bundesliga - and then having to play against BVB - just doesn't feel right for me. And secondly, it was probably my last chance to take a big step and experience such an adventure."
"Yes, there were [enquiries from other Bundesliga clubs]. But I immediately turned them down," Reus added.
When asked whether he considered a move to Saudi Arabia, Reus said, "Yes, absolutely. I did a lot of research on the country, it was a long process. But then the offer from the USA interested me more."
Marco Reus ended up joining LA Galaxy and has made a blistering start to life in the United States. He marked his MLS debut with a goal and an assist, and was recently reunited with former BVB teammate Roman Bürki. LA Galaxy are firmly in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs.
Reus left Borussia Dortmund as the club's second highest goalscorer of all time, having found the back of the net on 170 occasions in 429 appearances for the club.
