Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without Niklas Süle until next month’s international break after he picked up an ankle injury during the Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

Niklas Süle will be out of action until the international break and will miss at least five games, with Nuri Sahin confirming that he picked up an ankle injury on Tuesday. The injury comes as a big blow to Borussia Dortmund as it leaves the team with just two fit centre-backs in the first-team.

With five games coming up in a 15-day period, the BVB defence will certainly be stretched thin. Sahin will hope that Nico Schlotterbeck and Waldemar Anton can start in all five games. While Ramy Bensebaini and Emre Can are the other options who could slot in at centre-back.

Borussia Dortmund could also call upon Filippo Mane. The highly rated Italian centre-back has yet to make his first-team debut, but did play against Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday after recovering from a muscle injury.

It will be interesting to see how Borussia Dortmund deal with this shortage of options in defence, with Julian Ryerson also dealing with a minor injury and Yan Couto currently sidelined with injury.

Borussia Dortmund will take on FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday, before making the trip to VfL Wolfsburg in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The Black and Yellows also have games against RB Leipzig, Sturm Graz, and Mainz 05 coming up before the international break.
