Germany qualified for the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast on Saturday. Having thrashed Curacao 7-1 in their tournament opener last week, Die Mannschaft clinched Group E with six points.
Deniz Undav came off the bench to net twice in the second half as Julian Naglesmann's side overturned an early deficit after Franck Kessie's 30th-minute strike had put the Elephants 1-0 up at the break against all the odds.
Borussia Dortmund stars Nico Schlotterbeck and Felix Nmecha started once again whereas Waldemar Anton and Maximilian Beier were on the bench. Here are the player ratings for the BVB stars:
Nico Schlotterbeck - N/A
He was having a great campaign for Germany but it was cut short following a collision with Amad Diallo during their clash with Ivory Coast on Saturday. He continued for a while but was hooked off at the break for Antonio Rudiger and fresh reports suggest Schlotterbeck will miss the rest of Germany's World Cup campaign.
The centre-back has sustained a knock to his ligament and will spend several months out, meaning he will be unavailable for Dortmund's opening few weeks of the 2026-27 season in a huge blow for Niko Kovac's side too. The 26-year-old had emerged as their key player last season with a series of talismanic displays in defense as his absence could now force them to dip into the summer transfer market for a temporary replacement.
Felix Nmecha - 8.5/10
By contrast, what a campaign Nmecha is having! After scoring Germany's first goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Curacao last week, he popped up with an assit for Deniz Undav's winning strike against Ivory Coast too.
He ran the show for Germany with his aggressive style of play, making several line-breaking passes and carrying the ball ahead with all the poise and purpose. Nmecha completed 91% of his passes and created two big chances in the game, one of which resulted in stoppage-time winner for Germany.
Waldemar Anton - N/A
An unused substitute here, but Julian Naglesmann could turn to him to cement the gap left by Schlotterbeck's campaign-ending injury from now on at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. We could see Anton make his first start for Germany at the tournament on matchday three of Group E against Ecuador on Thurday.
Maximilian Beier - N/A
His wait for a first appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues as Maximilian Beier has been an unused substitute in both of Germany's games in the competition so far. With a place in the knockout stages now confirmed, Naglesmann could make a load of changes to his XI which could see Beier finally came on in the north American showpiece.
