Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that they sent Julian Duranville on loan to Swiss Super League side Basel until the end of the season.

The Swiss giants do not have the option of purchasing the 19-year-old permanently but Dortmund have a re-sale clause which would allow them to sell the young gun if they wished.

BVB Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl revealed that recurring injuries has prevented the star from hitting the form that Dortmund would have liked to see from him. He said:

"“Julien has been with us in Dortmund for three years, but he is still a very young player in whom we continue to divine great potential. However, due to injuries -among other things – he has not been able to show his talent and abilities to the extent we would have liked.""
said Kehl in a club statement

He further added that the move to Basel could help Duranville get his career back on track with adequate playing time.

"“The move to FC Basel now gives him the opportunity to gain regular playing experience and develop further. We are convinced that this step is the right one for his future prospects here at BVB. We wish him every success during his time in Basel.“"

No Dortmund fan can argue with their decision to loan out Julien Duranville

Signed from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2023, Duranville failed to break into Dortmund's first-team side this season despite things looking promising for him last term. He made 24 appearances in all competitions, including 12 in the Bundesliga, although most of them came off the bench.

The youngster's most notable contribution was a goal in the DFB-Pokal when Dortmund won 4-1 against Phonix Lubeck in August 2024, with Duranville netting in the 62nd minute to restore their three-goal advantage in the tie.

The 19-year-old didn't make a single first-team appearance for Dortmund this season and was instead sent to their youth side in Regionalliga West, where he played only twice. He was also sidelined for the first three months of the campaign with a joint dislocation that forced him out of 17 games for Dortmund.

With Basel staring down a congested fixture list ahead, Duranville's arrival gives them more options and the star can expect regular game time, with the RotBlau competing on three fronts - the Swiss Super League, the Swiss Cup and the UEFA Europa League.

Duranville could be in line to make his Basel debut this weekend when the side plays FC Zurich in a league match on Sunday, 25th January.
