As nations around the world begin their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, we have an exciting match-up tonight which Dortmund fans would surely want to keep an eye on.
It's because Norway host Sweden in Oslo for a friendly game that puts two BVB stars on collision course as Julian Ryerson and Daniel Svensson might come up face-to-face
Having starred on opposite flanks for Die Borussen throughout 2025-26 season, the full-backs now trade dressing room camaraderie with Nordic rivalry. At least for tonight.
Both Norway and Sweden have qualified for the World Cup. While the former progressed from their group ahead of Italy following a dominant run for their first appearance since 1998, the Blagult came through the playoffs after seeing off Ukraine in the semi-finals and then Poland in the finals.
Ryerson vs Svensson on the international stage
Julian Ryerson was Dortmund's chief assist-maker with 18 for the season in all competitions, his best ever tally. With such an imperious individual campaign, Norway had to call him up for the World Cup duties as he could be a revelation on the flank for them too.
The 28-year-old combines electric pace with directness that makes him unstoppable when at full pelt while his crossing ability is second to none too. Having fed many to Serhou Guirassy at the club, Ryerson will now be looking to create a few for Erling Haaland.
During the qualifiers, Ryerson played in every game for Norway and made four assists. He also bagged one goal against Moldova for his first one in international colors. He'll now look to help the Red, White and Blue gain some momentum before the cup.
As for Svensson, the Swede's loan spell was turned into a permanent move last summer and he made sure Dortmund's faith was repaid with a series of top-notch displays which have also made him vital to Sweden's plans.
In the playoff final against Poland, Svensson completed full 90 minutes and stood like a rock on the right to make sure everything is kosher while also bombing forward to hook a pass or two and help Sweden carve out a chance.
This marks their first meeting on the international stage and given their opposite positions, the players will come up face-to-face on the field and it promises to be an interesting battle between two of BVB's talented stars.
Norway vs Sweden kicks-off at 7PM (CET).
