Former Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp is all set to take charge as Germany national team's head coach for the first time later this month.
He replaced Julian Naglesmann after Die Mannschaft's disappointing Round of 32 exit from the World Cup this year, having been away from a managerial post since departing Liverpool in 2024.
Now with international fixtures set to return nearly two months after the conclusion of the North American showpiece, Klopp has announced a massive squad ahead of his debut.
Only 3 BVB stars make the cut
In fact, Klopp has selected not one, but two different squads for the quadruple header that extends from the last two weeks of this month to the first two of October.
Yet, only three Borussia Dortmund players have made the cut across the two sides.
For the UEFA Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands and Greece, Nico Schlotterbeck and Felix Nmecha have received a call-up.
Schlotterbeck only returned to action last weekend from an ankle injury he suffered at the World Cup but had a stormer in defense, whereas Nmecha scored twice in the same match.
The two BVB stalwarts could now be seen for their games in Amsterdam on 24 September and then again in Augsburg, three days later.
Waldemar Anton has been summoned for their fixtures against Serbia and Greece in October. The 30-year-old, like Schlotterbeck and Nmecha, was a part of their World Cup squad too.
He could be given a chance to play in Munich on 1 October followed by their match in Thessaloniki on 4 October.
Maximilian Beier, Emre Can miss out
Now coming to marquee absences, Emre Can is no surprise as the defender is yet to return from a torn ACL he suffered earlier this year. But Maximilian Beier's exclusion is quite a surprise.
Sure, he didn't play much at the World Cup, but he's been on a good run of form with Dortmund in the new season with three assists in six games.
The club's other German contingent Patrick Drewes and Alexander Meyer, both goalkeepers, have never received a call-up and weren't included in either of Klopp's squads even now.
Also, both players are well in their 30s, and Germany have a few younger options such as Noah Atubolu and Jonas Urbig.
Former Dortmund star Karim Adeyemi, who joined FC Barcelona in the summer, has been summoned on the back of a prolific start to life with the Catalans.
