There's something about the UEFA Champions League that seems to unlock the best out of Serhou Guirassy. He loves playing in Europe's premier competition. In fact, the Guinean is a different beast during those nights.

No matter the opposition, the BVB striker is almost always at his ruthless best, taking on defenses fearlessly with his domineering, forward runs and exhibiting predatory instincts inside the box that would put even the most glamorous stars to shame.

Guirassy was back to his usual best on Tuesday against Sabah FK, scoring both of Dortmund's goals in their narrow 2-1 victory at the Baku Olympic Stadium for their second Champions League win of the season in three games. He had previously struck twice against Villarreal on the opening day too, making it four in the competition this season after Tuesday.

Only Kane and Mbappe has netted more since 2024

Since joining from VfB Stuttgart in 2024, Serhou Guirassy has scored 21 goals in the Champions League, including the Golden Boot-winning tally of 13 during his first campaign.

Only Bayern Munich's Harry Kane and Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe have found the net more often than him during this time period with 28 and 24 goals respectively.

Guirassy ranks higher than even Manchester City ace Erling Haaland, who has struck 20 times, whilst also eclipsing PSG star Ousmane Dembele's tally of 19 goals.

The Guinean was on fire in his first season, famously bagging a hat-trick against FC Barcelona in the second leg of their quarter-final tie.

He only managed four the following season, but Dortmund won in every game he scored, including in the first leg of their knockout playoffs against Atalanta.

All-time record beckons Guirassy

With 21 goals in the Champions League with Borussia Dortmund, Serhou Guirassy currently ranks second on their all-time list of goalscorers in the competition.

Former captain Marco Reus leads the way with 24, a mark that Guirassy can easily surpass before the end of the year, let alone the end of the season.

The Guinean ace needs only three more to make the record his own and interestingly, the BVB are scheduled to play three more European fixtures before the end of 2026.

However, the quality of opposition is set to get tougher as Dortmund play Real Betis, Premier League champions Arsenal and Serie A holders Inter Milan in their next three Champions League outings.

Let's see what Guirassy has in store.
