"Played like a football composer" - Fans in awe of Joey Veerman after his stellar performance on Netherlands return

Joey Veerman is back in the Netherlands side with a bang. The midfielder came off the bench in the second-half of their 1-1 draw with Germany in the UEFA Nations League and injected flair and panache in Oranje's offensive plays which built the stage for their late equalizer.

Frozen out under Ronald Koeman after their Euro 2024 campaign, new manager Xavi recalled him back into the squad following his bright start to life with Borussia Dortmund and Veerman repaid the Spaniard's faith handsomely with a majestic display upon his international return.

Replacing Quentin Timber in the 57th minute, the 27-year-old almost single-handedly turned the screw on Germany by dictating plays from the deep, laying incisive passes to pick out teammates in crucial positions and creating chances out of nothing.

The Dutchman's technical ability on the ball was there for all to see, whilst also looking clinical in his set-piece deliveries as the home side's attacking plays got more dangerous particularly after Veerman's introduction.

Despite playing only 33 minutes of the game, he finished with the most number of chances created in the Netherlands squad with four, as well as laying a team-high of nine crosses, a testament to just how much he sharpened the Oranje in the second half.
