The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially kicked-off on Thursday as football fever grips the planet for the next 30 days.

Borussia Dortmund fans may have to wait for a while for the new season, but can catch many of their first-team stars in action at the US, Canada and Mexico showpiece.

As many as 10 stars from the BVB side have been called-up to represent their national teams, as Germany boasts the highest number of Dortmund players in the squad with four.

To see their player/s lift the coveted FIFA World Cup trophy is a matter of great pride for any club and Die Boruseen have had that privelege of reveling in their players' success before.

Here are the players who have won the World Cup trophy while playing for the club:

Heinz Kwiatkowski (West Germany, 1954)

The first ever Borussia Dortmund player to win the FIFA World Cup was Heinz Kwiatkowski, who lifted the Jules Rimet trophy in 1954 with West Germany though he didn't play in the finals against Hungary. In fact, the BVB custodian played just one match of their entire campaign, against the Magyars in the group stages when his side were beaten 8-3.

Andreas Moller and Frank Mill (West Germany, 1990)

West Germany erased the pain of 1986 final loss by going all the way four years later in a repeat of that showpiece clash against Argentina. Andreas Brehme struck a penalty in the 85th minute to earn the side a 1-0 win that secured the side their third World Cup glory.

Dortmund players at the time Andreas Miller and Frank Mill, were both part of Franz Beckenbauer's triumphant squad, but they too did not feature in the finals. In fact, Mill didn't play a single game for West Germany while Miller only made two appearances.

Erik Durm, Kevin Großkreutz, Mats Hummels and Roman Weidenfeller (Germany, 2014)

In 2014, Germany ended their long-wait for an international trophy by going all the way in Brazil to lift their fourth FIFA World Cup title. Joechim Loew's swashbuckling team featured four Borussia Dortmund players, of which Matts Hummels played the full 120 minutes of the showpiece against Argentina.

In doing so, he also became the first Borussia Dortmund player to play in a World Cup final. Eric Durm, Kevin Großkreutz and Roman Weidenfeller didn't see any minutes of the finals, but took home the winners' medal as Dortmund players.
