3. Mats Hummels (€30.5m)

In one of the most bizarre but organised career paths of all-time, Mats Hummels was actually signed by Borussia Dortmund THREE TIMES (once on loan, twice permanently). Interestingly, these signings were all made from the same club too - Bayern Munich. Hummels has only played for two different clubs in his lifetime, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

It was actually the third time that Dortmund signed Hummels which was the most expensive time, so they clearly saw something in the German centre-back. He arrived back to the Signal Iduna Park in time for the 2019/20 season, where he has spent his time ever since.

Now ageing at 35 years old, Hummels remains a first-team regular for BVB, making 17 appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season. Ageing at 35 years old and being under contract until this summer, it remains to be seen whether or not Hummels is considering retirement after this season.
