3. Mario Gotze

By now, Borussia Dortmund fans are familiar with the terrible story of Mario Gotze. He is one of the players who played for Dortmund during their golden era but made the switch to play for Bayern Munich in 2013.

Despite scoring the winning goal in the World Cup final a year after leaving Borussia Dortmund, he ultimately struggled being away from the club. Three years spent in Munich were three years poorly spent and they only resulted in Gotze lacking confidence before being given a second chance at BVB.

Gotze's second spell at Dortmund was okay but it was not much to write home about. He had clearly lost his sparkle of the first spell at Dortmund and now he is performing adequately at Frankfurt. In hindsight, he could have become a Dortmund legend but now he will only be remembered as one of the 18 players who played for Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
