As Borussia Dortmund’s transfer window continues to unfold, the club’s needs seem to be evolving in response to recent developments, particularly in attack. The club's current situation may see the likes of Youssoufa Moukoko, Niclas Füllkrug and Sébastien Haller all leave the club depending on how negotiations with clubs go in the next weeks.

With Füllkrug and Moukoko in particular having no shortage of suitors, Dortmund may end up with only an injured Serhou Guirassy and the aforementioned Haller as their options up top, leaving them very thin in a position that seemed relatively secure not too long ago. As we’ve mentioned previously, having all three leave would require that Dortmund have some sort of contingency plan in mind.

According to reports from Caught Offside, that contingency plan may be in the form of Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier. The 21 year old German international is coming off of an exemplary season with his club, having chipped in with 16 goals and 1 assist in the Bundesliga.

Beier is a very pacey, versatile attacker who can play as a striker as well as out on the wings, with his preference being through the middle. A move for Beier in the event of this reported “striker exodus” would make a lot of sense, in many ways, for the same reasons it’s been argued that Dortmund should be looking to keep Moukoko and give him more time on the pitch; He offers a different profile to Dortmund’s current striker options and could also compliment Guirassy quite well if the club decided to try to play with a front two.

If Dortmund were to indeed see both Moukoko and Füllkrug leave, the club could add Beier to the squad with relative ease from a financial standpoint as the player reportedly has a 30 million euro release clause in his contract with Hoffenheim. Despite the disappointment that would surround the departure of both Füllkrug and Moukoko, Beier could be a very solid signing that offers both versatility and tactical flexibility in terms of how Dortmund will play next season; something the club could very much put in jeopardy if they do not react to this potential exodus appropriately.
