Borussia Dortmund have been drawn against Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.

The draw for the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals is in the books and Borussia Dortmund will go up against Atletico Madrid. There will be a reunion with Axel Witsel, who made 145 appearances for the Black and Yellows before making the move to Spain on a free transfer.

The first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals will take place in Spain on April 9-10, with the second leg set to take place at the Westfalenstadion on April 16/17.

Edin Terzic's side defeated PSV Eindhoven 3-1 on aggregate to qualify for the quarterfinals, with goals from Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus securing a 2-0 win in the second leg.

The draw for the UEFA Champions League semifinals has also been made. And if Borussia Dortmund manage to overcome the challenge of Atletico Madrid, they will face one of Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona in the semifinals.

But first, Borussia Dortmund are set for a gruelling test against Atletico Madrid. Much like BVB, the Spaniards have struggled for consistency this season. But they have a number of game-changers in their ranks, including Antoine Griezmann, Memphis Depay, and Alvaro Morata. And with the shrewd Diego Simeone on the sidelines, they are certainly not a team to be taken lightly.

The last time these two sides met was back in the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League group stage. Borussia Dortmund claimed a stunning 4-0 win at home, with Axel Witsel, Raphael Guerreiro and Jadon Sancho among the scorers. Atletico Madrid then avenged that defeat by claiming a 2-0 win at home two weeks later.
