A place in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League will be on the line as Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid square off at the Westfalenstadion on Tuesday evening.

Borussia Dortmund will have their sights set on a place in the UEFA Champions League semifinals for the first time since 2013. But in order to make history, the Black and Yellows must first overcome their one-goal deficit against Atletico Madrid. The Spanish side won the first leg 2-1 last week, and BVB will need a complete performance if they are to reach the last four of the world's premier club competition.

Edin Terzic's side issued an outstanding response in the second-half at the Metropolitano Stadium last week and were unlucky not to end up with an equaliser. But Borussia Dortmund's first-half performance was simply unacceptable at this level, and they cannot afford a repeat of that on Tuesday.

Jadon Sancho should return to the Borussia Dortmund starting XI after missing Saturday's trip to Borussia Mönchengladbach due to illness. Sebastien Haller, who scored in the first leg, is set to miss out after picking up an injury against Gladbach. The likes of Mats Hummels, Julian Ryerson, Emre Can and Niclas Füllkrug are also expected to play from the start on Tuesday.

Samuel Lino scored in the first leg for Atletico, but will miss the second leg due to a yellow card suspension. Memphis Depay and Thomas Lemar are also sidelined for Diego Simeone's side, who prepared for the trip to Germany with an impressive come from behind 3-1 win over Girona in La Liga.

Antoine Griezmann was in inspired form in the first leg, and he backed that up by scoring a brace against Girona on Saturday. He could well prove to be a handful once again for the BVB defenders in the second leg.

Borussia Dortmund will also have to figure out a way to cope with the high intensity and pressing of the Atletico midfielders, who were excellent in the first leg.
