Borussia Dortmund confident they can sign Chelsea star for cut-price fee
Borussia Dortmund are ready to make Ian Maatsen their first signing of the summer transfer window, and are hoping to complete the deal for a fee less than his release clause of 35 million euros. This is being reported by Sky Sport, who add that the player feels very comfortable at the club and would be open to staying beyond the end of the season.
Maatsen has enjoyed a stellar loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, having joined from Chelsea during the January transfer window. The left-back has become one of the first names on the teamsheet, and has three goals and two assists to his name in 22 appearances for the club.
The Black and Yellows have been delighted with his development, and are now keen to turn his loan deal into a permanent one.
According to Sky Sport, Borussia Dortmund are not willing to meet his release clause and are instead hoping to reduce the fee to 25 million euros. The BVB bosses are said to be preparing their first offer for the 22 year old, who has two years left on his current contract with Chelsea.
The English Premier League club will look to sell Maatsen this summer to raise funds for new signings. And Borussia Dortmund could attempt to take advantage by signing the left-back for a cut-price fee.
A number of other clubs are also expected to be in the race to sign Maatsen, with Sky Sport claiming that Aston Villa have also registered their interest in signing the Dutchman. Manchester City were also linked with a move for Maatsen in January.
Ian Maatsen will hope to cap off his impressive stint at Borussia Dortmund by helping the club win the UEFA Champions League title on June 1. He will then head to the European Championship with the Netherlands, hopefully having already completed a permanent move to BVB.
Do you think Borussia Dortmund will be able to sign Ian Maatsen permanently from Chelsea for a fee less than his release clause of 35 million euros?
