Ian Maatsen: I feel very comfortable at Borussia Dortmund
Ian Maatsen has stated that he is very happy at Borussia Dortmund, but is unsure what the future holds for him beyond the end of the season.
In desperate need for a new left-back, Borussia Dortmund signed Ian Maatsen on a loan deal from Chelsea during the January transfer window. The 22 year old has slotted in seamlessly and has established himself as an important part of the team.
Borussia Dortmund will have to pay a club record fee in the region of 35 million euros to make the signing of Maatsen permanent in the summer due to a release clause in his Chelsea contract. Other clubs are also expected to be in the race to sign the Dutch full-back, who has two goals and two assists to his name in 18 appearances for BVB.
Despite all the speculation surrounding his future, Maatsen is not thinking about this summer just yet. He is focused on Borussia Dortmund, and feels very comfortable at the club.
"We have so many important games ahead of us now and I'm fully focused on them," Maatsen said in an interview with Ruhr Nachrichten. "I don't know yet what will happen in the summer. There will certainly be several options. What I can say is that I feel very comfortable in Dortmund and I'm really enjoying being here at BVB."
It was reported recently that Maatsen has already told Chelsea he wants to leave the club in the summer. But he has now denied those claims. "No, I have not done that. At this stage of my career, my main priority is to play a lot. That's the most important thing for me. I have a contract with Chelsea, it's a big club. I'm not thinking about my future just yet. We'll see what happens."
