Borussia Dortmund are set to send Soumaila Coulibaly on loan to Real Betis, and the deal will include the obligation to make the signing permanent after the defender reaches a certain number of appearances.

It was clear that Soumaila Coulibaly did not have much of a future at Borussia Dortmund after failing to make his mark at the club. Now, the 20 year old is on the verge of securing a loan move away from the club. According to Relevo in Spain, Real Betis are closing in on the signing of Coulibaly.

Talks are at an advanced stage, and the report adds that Real Betis will have the option to make the signing permanent at the end of the season. But it is expected that the deal will also contain a clause that would make the buy option mandatory if certain parameters are reached. These are said to include Coulibaly reaching a certain number of appearances and Betis qualifying for European football.

Soumaila Coulibaly spent last season on loan at Royal Antwerp

Coulibaly came close to joining Burnley on a permanent transfer last summer but the move collapsed at the eleventh hour. He spent last season out on loan at Royal Antwerp. And while he was a regular starter for the Belgian side during the first half of the season, he lost his spot in the team after suffering an injury during the winter period. And the Belgian side decided against signing him permanently.

Borussia Dortmund signed Soumaila Coulibaly on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in 2021. But the centre-back has made just two first-team appearances for the Black and Yellows. He will now hope to make a fresh start in Spain and take the next steps in his development.
