Borussia Dortmund fall to shock 4-0 defeat against BG Pathum United in Thailand
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund were handed a reality check in Thailand on Sunday evening as they fell to a 4-0 defeat against BG Pathum United.
Pre-season results do not count for much and Borussia Dortmund are still without a number of key players following their excursions at Euro 2024. But it was still a calamitous performance and sobering defeat for Nuri Sahin's side, as they were beaten 4-0 by BG Pathum United in Thailand on Sunday.
Not many fans at the sold-out BG Stadium would have expected Borussia Dortmund to fall to defeat. But two goals either side of half-time helped the Thai side script a famous win. Jaroensak Wonggorn was the star of the show as he scored a second-half brace. Melvyn Lorenzen and Teerasil Dangda were also on target for BG Pathum United.
Despite being without a number of key players, Borussia Dortmund were still able to field a strong starting XI.
Julian Brandt, Niklas Süle, Felix Nmecha, Karim Adeyemi, and Julian Ryerson were among the first-team stars in the lineup. While the likes of Sebastien Haller and Kjell Wätjen came off the bench. Talented youngsters Paris Brunner, Almugera Kabar, and Tyler Meiser were also given an opportunity to impress by Sahin.
Lack of sharpness costs Borussia Dortmund in shock defeat
Borussia Dortmund were lacking match sharpness right from the get go, and failed to match the intensity of their opponents. A lack of efficiency and effectiveness in the final third also affected BVB as they fell to a well deserved defeat.
The result will by no means send alarm bells ringing at Borussia Dortmund. But those in charge will hope to see some improvements from the team as we inch closer to the start of the season. Borussia Dortmund will now head to Japan where a reunion with Shinji Kagawa awaits as they take on Cerezo Osaka.
