Borussia Dortmund’s five most memorable matches of the 2023/24 season
By Tushar Bahl
It was a roller coaster of a season for Borussia Dortmund as they reached the final of the UEFA Champions League, but failed to make a similar impact in the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. The Black and Yellows had several memorable moments and matches over the course of the campaign, and here we take a look at five of the very best.
Away win vs AC Milan
Beautifully placed in the Champions League group of death following back-to-back wins over Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund went to Milan with the opportunity to book their place in the round of 16. And they did exactly that with an excellent 3-1 win over the Italian giants.
The game got off to a frantic start, with Gregor Kobel stepping up to keep out Olivier Giroud’s penalty in the sixth minute. Four minutes later, Marco Reus gave BVB the lead from the penalty spot, only for Samuel Chukwueze to equalise before half-time.
Borussia Dortmund looked dangerous every time they ventured forward on the counter, and also did an excellent job of blunting the AC Milan attack. And their hard work was rewarded in the 59th minute when Jamie Bynoe-Gittens made it 2-1 after some fantastic build-up play. Karim Adeyemi then added a third ten minutes later to secure a pivotal win that also helped BVB finish top in Group F.
