Second leg vs Atletico Madrid
Facing a one-goal deficit from the first leg, Borussia Dortmund needed to be at their very best against Atletico Madrid to reach the Champions League semifinals. And an inspired performance from Marcel Sabitzer led the Black and Yellows to a famous 4-2 win.
Borussia Dortmund made a blistering start to the game and overturned the 2-1 deficit thanks to first-half goals from Julian Brandt and Ian Maatsen.
Atletico then responded brilliantly after the break and scored twice to turn the tie around again. But the 80,000+ fans at the Westfalenstadion sparked Borussia Dortmund’s comeback and Niclas Füllkrug and Marcel Sabitzer both scored in an exhilarating three-minute spell to change the course of the quarterfinal tie once again.
Borussia Dortmund played some of their best attacking football of the season in this game, and made the usually assured Atletico Madrid defence look vulnerable time and again.
