Borussia Dortmund handed tricky DFB-Pokal tie

Borussia Dortmund's next assignment in the DFB-Pokal will be away to Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.

The draw for the DFB-Pokal second round has been made, and Borussia Dortmund will have to overcome the challenge of VfL Wolfsburg away from home in order to continue their journey in the competition. The tie will be played on October 29/30, 2024 at the Volkswagen Arena.

Wolfsburg will no doubt offer a tough challenge to Borussia Dortmund. Ralph Hasenhüttl's side came very close to defeating Bayern Munich on matchday one of the Bundesliga season before eventually losing 3-2. They responded well and cruised to a 2-0 win over Holstein Kiel last weekend. Wolfsburg began their DFB-Pokal campaign with a narrow win over TuS Koblenz.

Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 win over Regionalliga side Phönix Lübeck in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. While Wolfsburg will present them with a much tougher challenge, the Black and Yellows will have their sights set on making a deep run in the Pokal this year.

BVB were eliminated from the DFB-Pokal by VfB Stuttgart last season, and last won the competition back in the 2020/21 season. Nuri Sahin will be determined to change that this year, having won the DFB-Pokal once as a player.

Elsewhere in the second round of the DFB-Pokal, Bayern Munich will make the trip to Mainz 05. Reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen will be at home to SV Elversberg, while Eintracht Frankfurt will take on Borussia Mönchengladbach in what is arguably the pick of the matches.
