Borussia Dortmund defensive midfielder Salih Özcan is all set to join VfL Wolfsburg on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Salih Özcan will leave Borussia Dortmund on a loan deal, and multiple reports in Germany claim that a buy option has not been included. Wolfsburg wanted to sign the Turkish international to bolster their midfield ranks, and the transfer is now on the verge of going through.

The BVB bosses had made it clear to Özcan that he was free to leave the club. The defensive midfielder was even left out of the Borussia Dortmund squad for their first two games of the season.

Salih Özcan had fallen out of favour at Borussia Dortmund

Özcan fell out of favour at Borussia Dortmund after the arrival of Pascal Groß from Brighon & Hove Albion. And while he had said in June that he had no plans to leave the Black and Yellows, he is now on the verge of joining Wolfsburg.

Borussia Dortmund signed Özcan from FC Köln two summers ago, and after a strong start, he was unable to cement his spot in the starting XI. Now he is set to make a fresh start at Wolfsburg, where he will hope to play regularly and make his mark in the first-team.

Salih Özcan still has two years left on his Borussia Dortmund contract, and it remains to be seen what the long-term future holds for him. But a strong loan spell in Lower Saxony would certainly help the 26 year old's chances of securing his future at Wolfsburg, BVB, or elsewhere.
