Borussia Dortmund player ratings from 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund played a near-perfect game but were unable to overcome the inevitable Real Madrid in the Champions League final, falling to a 2-0 defeat courtesy of goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinícius Jr.
The Black and Yellows started the game as underdogs, but dominated proceedings for the opening 70 minutes with their high pressing and aggressive approach paying dividends. Niclas Füllkrug hit the post, and Karim Adeyemi and Marcel Sabitzer also came close for Borussia Dortmund in the first-half.
But a lapse in concentration was all Real Madrid needed to turn the screws in their favour. Dani Carvajal opened the scoring from a corner, and the Spaniards never looked back. Vinícius Jr. then took advantage of Ian Maatsen's error and made it 2-0 soon after to take away any hopes of a BVB comeback.
The result will certainly sting for Borussia Dortmund, who played with such incredible fight and desire. But fine margins can make the difference at this level, and the hope will be that Edin Terzic's side can learn from this experience and come back stronger next season.
Here are our Borussia Dortmund player ratings from their 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid.
Gregor Kobel (7/10)
After enjoying a quiet 70-odd minutes, Kobel was forced into making three excellent saves to keep Borussia Dortmund in the game. But he stood no chance of saving either of Real Madrid's goals.
