Borussia Dortmund fell to a humbling 3-0 defeat away to Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga on Saturday on the back of an abject overall performance.

Perhaps still suffering from the after-effects of their celebrations after qualifying for the Champions League final, Borussia Dortmund delivered a lax and uninspired performance away to Mainz 05 on Saturday. And their reward was a well-deserved 3-0 defeat that serves as a reality check ahead of their trip to Wembley on June 1.

With not much on the line for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, Edin Terzic made ten changes to his starting XI. And the back-up players failed to make a case for a starting spot against Real Madrid, as they were thoroughly outplayed by Mainz 05.

The damage was done in the first-half, with Mainz scoring three goals in a nine-minute period. Borussia Dortmund never really recovered, and are now set to finish fifth in the Bundesliga this season.

Here are our player ratings from Borussia Dortmund's 3-0 loss to Mainz 05.

Alexander Meyer (3/10)

Meyer did not look comfortable from the get-go, and he gifted Mainz their second goal with a woeful kick straight into the path of Jae-sung Lee. It was a very uncharacteristic performance from BVB's second-choice goalkeeper, who is usually much more reliable between the sticks.
