Borussia Dortmund preparing opening bid for Ian Maatsen

Borussia Dortmund are ready to turn Ian Maatsen’s loan move into a permanent one, and are preparing an opening bid of around 25 million euros for his signature.
Ian Maatsen enjoyed an impressive loan spell in the second half of the season with Borussia Dortmund, and played a vital role in the club’s run to the UEFA Champions League final. The Black and Yellows are now keen to sign him permanently, and will test Chelsea’s resolve with a bid of around 25 million euros.
This is being reported by Fabrizio Romano, who adds that talks between the two clubs are expected to take place in the coming days.
There is a release clause in Maatsen’s current contract with Chelsea, and he would be able to leave for a fee of 35 million euros. It remains to be seen if the Premier League side would be willing to accept a fee less than the release clause, considering a number of other clubs are also expected to enter the race to sign the left-back.
Maatsen has always insisted that he is happy at Borussia Dortmund, and that he would be keen to stay at the club beyond the end of his loan spell. The BVB bosses are also keen to sign the 22 year old, but would need to look for alternatives if they are unable to reach an agreement on a suitable fee with Chelsea.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Ian Maatsen, who is regarded as one of the top young left-backs in the world. He scored three goals and assisted a further two in 23 appearances across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund in the recently concluded season.
