Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has provided an update on the status of the Serhou Guirassy transfer after the striker failed his medical examination.
Serhou Guirassy was all set to join Borussia Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart, but it was revealed during his medical that he was carrying a knee injury that he suffered while on international duty with Guinea. BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has now revealed the next steps that will take place before it can be determined whether the striker will join the club.
"Everyone involved still wants the transfer" - Hans Joachim Watzke on Serhou Guirassy deal
"We were not aware that he suffered an injury during the last international match. He probably didn't realise exactly what had happened. It showed up on the MRI. If our team doctor does the medical examination, then you still need a specialist's opinion - especially if it's something in the knee. Anything else would be reckless," Watzke said during his appearance on BILD-TV.
"The current situation is that everyone involved still wants the transfer to go through, but of course we need a more reliable assessment of how serious the injury is."
Guirassy rejected interest from the likes of Arsenal and AC Milan in favour of a transfer to Borussia Dortmund. And the hope for all involved will be that his knee injury is not a serious one, and the transfer can go through in the coming week.
The 28 year old scored 30 goals in just 30 appearances last season and helped VfB Stuttgart finish second in the Bundesliga standings. There is a release clause of around 18 million euros in his contract, which Borussia Dortmund will hope to activate once there is more clarity surrounding his injury.
