Knee injury holding up Serhou Guirassy’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund

Serhou Guirassy’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund has come under doubt due to a knee injury that the striker sustained while on international duty in June.
Borussia Dortmund were all set to announce the signing of Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart on Wednesday. But the move was instead put in doubt as the striker’s medical examination revealed a knee injury that he sustained while playing for the Guinea national team in June.
According to Sky Sport, Guirassy is dealing with an old knee injury but the BVB doctors are of the opinion that it can be treated conservatively. A further examination will now be carried out by a specialist next week to determine the extent of the 28 year old’s injury, and whether or not he can join Borussia Dortmund.
In the meantime, Guirassy will fly back to Stuttgart, and both clubs are in contact on how to proceed. Multiple reports in Germany claim that there will not be any clarity on the matter until next week at the earliest.
Borussia Dortmund decided to sign Guirassy on the back of his sublime campaign with Stuttgart last season that saw him score 30 goals in just 30 appearances. Guirassy’s goals played a vital role in Stuttgart’s second place finish in the Bundesliga. A number of big clubs were in the race to sign the towering striker, but he decided in favour of a move to the Black and Yellows.
If and when the transfer goes through, Guirassy will compete with Niclas Füllkrug for a spot in the Borussia Dortmund starting XI.
