Gio Reyna could leave Borussia Dortmund on a permanent transfer this summer after failing to make an impact on loan at Nottingham Forest.

The last few seasons have certainly not gone according to plan for Gio Reyna, and the recently concluded campaign saw him spend plenty of time on the bench. Once regarded as one of Borussia Dortmund’s most talented young players, the 21 year old has seen his development plateau in recent years. Now, the Black and Yellows are ready to sell Reyna with two years left on his current contract.

This is being reported by BILD, who add that Reyna is not considered to be a part of Borussia Dortmund’s plans for the coming season.

Reyna was on the pitch for a total of just 610 minutes in club football this season, and notched up two assists. The attacking midfielder’s lack of playing time at Borussia Dortmund prompted him to join Nottingham Forest in January. But he wasn’t able to make much of an impact in England either, and was limited to just two starts on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Despite Reyna’s struggles in club football, he remains a key player for the United States. And both Reyna and Borussia Dortmund will hope that strong performances at the Copa America this summer can help him attract the interest of other clubs. He has played from the start in both of the USMNT’s group stage games so far.

It remains to be seen just what sort of interest Gio Reyna will generate this summer. He said earlier this month that his aim is to play for a club where he can feel valued.
